Family: Acanthaceae

Part Used: Rhizomes and roots, powder or clumps processed form leaves or stem (Qingdai)

Properties: Rhizome and root: taste bitter, cold in nature; Qingdai: taste salty, cold in nature

Actions:Rhizome and roots: clear away heat and detoxify, cool blood and reduce swelling; Qingdai: clear away heat and detoxify, cool blood and remove spots, purge fire and relieve convulsion.

Usage:Rhizome and roots: spots caused by warm poison, high fever and headache, plague, erysipelas, gills, viral hepatitis, influenza, pneumonia, sores, herpes; Qingdai: spots caused by warm poison, vomiting due to blood heat, chest pain and coughing up blood , aphtha, gills, throat paralysis, epilepsy in children
